Four of our 5th class students represented Knockea in the Analog Devices Lego Robotics Competition. They scored a highly impressive 81 points overall and scored in the top of their group and third overall in the theory section. They scored very highy in the application of coding section and sailed into the final which will take place in Analog on the 18th of April. Well done gang, we are so proud of you!

Well done to our Credit Union Quiz Team who partook in the St. Ailbes CU quiz in the Millenium Centre Caherconlish last night. They scored in the top 5 teams in their age category. Comhgairdeas!
We were very lucky to have Sarah and Jacob from Lego Learnit join the class yesterday to show the kids how to use Lego Robotics kits. The class were in groups and had to build a robot according to the instructions and then code it to complete different commands. Well done to Dara, Abbie and Ellie who were the winners on the day and will represent Knockea in the Limerick area semi finals in March.
We were delighted to see Sam Maguire pay a visit today. The children were amazed with how big and heavy the cup was!
Ms O Riordan was so proud of the choir who sang beautifully at the Ballyneety Christmas market on Sunday 30th November ! They helped create a lovely festive atmosphere as people walked in to do some Christmas shopping. The rain did not dampen their spirits and they sang their hearts out! Thank you to Ms Murphy for playing the violin with us. And thank you to all the parents for coming too. It is greatly appreciated!
5th class have been exploring friction in science and angles in Maths. We combined both this week to hypothesise on how toy cars can roll down a hill on different surfaces and how the angle of the slope affects gravity and friction. We had some interesting ideas and were able to put them to the test.
Many thanks to 5th class for hosting a lovely activity during science week where we were invited to the hall to meet some of the most famous scientists and inventors and learn more about them. We recently learned about Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone invention and we were thrilled to meet him and learn more! Go raibh maith agaibh rang a 5!
Congrats to our boys from 4th, 5th and 6th who won three of their four matches yesterday to reach the Mini 7s Football Final which will take place in Caherelly next Monday at 12pm.
What a day for Knockea! Massive congratulations to our boys in 5th and 6th class who had a fantasic win in the under 13s East Schools' Football Final. Great goals and points by Joe Kelly, Ryan O' Connell and Ronan O' Donnell were enough to see Knockea get over the line by two points. A special mention to the defensive effort in keeping out Crecora in the dying minutes also. It was great to see the lads get their rewards for all the hard work in training over the last month.
Well done to our football girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class who travelled to Doon on Thursday 9th October and competed in a football blitz against Doon, Lisnagry, Roxborough and Crecora. It was the first time going to the football blitz for some of our 4th class girls and they were fantastic. For our 6th class girls it was their last time playing in this competition and they left it all out on the pitch. Well done on your win against Crecora and best of luck to Lisnagry and Roxborough in the final. Our next girl's football outing will be the mini 7s competition after the midterm break. Huge well done to our super camogie girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class who took part in the Laurel Hill Secondary School camogie blitz on Friday 19th September. The girls won the division 4 final on the day and were thrilled to return to Knockea with the cup. It was our 4th class girls' first time representing their school playing camogie, some might say they might be our lucky charm after their big win. We also bumped into some familair faces on the day as some of our past pupils were helping out on the day. Well done everyone! Many thanks to Laurel Hill for organising such a wonderful event, and the girls were delighted to receive their new water bottles and some sweets at the end of the day.
This week and last, 5th class have been learning about data and averages. This morning we worked out the average costs of Halloween sweets in the special buys of the Lidl brochure.
