Active Week 2025

Junior Infants had the most fantastic time during active week. We started off the week with 6th class doing our walk a mile with a smile, On Wednesday we had our welly throwing competition, well done to our two winners. We also did our sponsored walk in the field that day. On Thursday we went to the Old Rectory in Croom for our school tour, we had the BEST day! On Friday, we had our first Knockes Sports Day! Despite the weather we got to enjoy all the activities and finished the day off with an icecream! Thank you Mr. Shanahan for all your hard work organising active week!

Did someone say brownies??

Did someone say brownies??

A huge thank you to Mr. Shanahan who taught us all about how to bake yummy chocolate brownies. We chatted about the ingredients that we needed and all the different steps we had to take to bake them. We were shocked at how much sugar and oil were needed for brownies and it helped us understand why it's not a good idea to have treats all the time but every now and then is ok!

Mr. Sun please don't go!!

We have been enjoying some of the fabulous weather here in Junior Infants. Last week we went on a 'Summer Senses Walk' where we used our sense of smell, sight, touch, taste (imaginary taste) and hearing to discover all the wonderful summer aspects around our school. We had a chance at the end to draw pictures of everything we saw, heard, smelled, imagined we could taste and touch in our lovely field. We hope the sun comes back soon!

Gardeners in the making!

In April we learned a little bit about what plants and flowers need if they are to grow. We learned they need water, sunlight and soil. We planted some cress seeds in pots with some soil, watered them several times during the day and made sure they had lots of sunlight for two weeks. All our hard work paid off and look at how it grew! We're hoping to plant some sunflowers after the Easter break now that we are professional gardeners! Well done everyone!!

Capacity Fun

Capacity Fun

This week we are learning about capacity and using our estimation skills. We looked at the chalk box and the clay box and estimated which box would hold more water, we estimated the chalk box would because it looked bigger. We tested our idea by filling it with the cups. We needed 12 cups to fill our chalk box and only 9 for the clay box so we were right! Then we had a race outside trying to fill our box before the other team! Well done everyone, we think they might have heard our cheering all the way down in Ballyneety!!
