This week we are learning about length and area! Today we made our own metre sticks using one single page. We had to experiment with folding the page in different ways, cut and glue the strips of paper together and then measure it against a metre stick to make sure we had the right length. Lots of helping and teamwork was involved, well done everyone!
Huge well done to this two second class students who were chosen as winners in the Fair Trade Christmas Competition. They were invited to a prize presentation last week in Limerick City where they received their prizes, maith sibh cailíní!

Many thanks to 5th class for hosting a lovely activity during science week where we were invited to the hall to meet some of the most famous scientists and inventors and learn more about them. We recently learned about Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone invention and we were thrilled to meet him and learn more! Go raibh maith agaibh rang a 5!
Well done to this second class superstar who won a medal for rugby last week. Maith thú!

Our super second class scientists were given a challenge at the beginning of Science week. They had to plan and work together to build a taller tower. However, they were only allowed to use paper and selloptape. They spent 5 minutes planning and then they had fifteem minutes to get working. On the first day some towers were sucessful but we soon learned that being a scientist and an inventor is tough work and it doesn't always work out. We gave it another go on Tuesday, chatted about what could be changed to make it work and voila, 5 tall towers were created. Well done everyone!!
First and Second Class really enjoyed their Heritage School's visit from Anthony Galvin last week. Anthony is a fantastic story teller and the boys and girls were in stitches laughing at his funny stories. Thanks for the visit!
Congratulations to Rang a Dó who were the Greensmith Cup winners in October! Their cheers could be heard throughout the school. They have been trying very hard to use their manners and follow the school rules, well deserved winners!

We had a visit from some of our past pupils who play with St. Ailbes who have had a very successful year playing football with their club. The kindly visited our class to show us their trophys and took a photo with our St Ailbes players in second class. We really enjoyed our dress up day for Halloween too, everyone looked amazing!! We had such a fun day on Friday 10th October when we went to Mary I to their craft maker workshop during Space week. We had a great time on the bus singing songs and telling jokes and we were a little early so we got to go for a little walk around the area and spot some native Irish trees that we have been learning about in Science too. We heard a lot about Space and the moon and how far away they are from us and we even got to hear about space inventions we see here on Earth everyday! We learned about geodomes and how they are used in Space and on the moon and then we put our science coats on and set to work on some scientific challenges. We had to created 3d cubes and triangles and once we mastered that we were set a mega challenge where we had to design, plan, explore and create our very own 3D geodomes. Take a look at our video from the day, we were extreamely busy bees and who knows, we might make it to space ourselves some day!! Thanks very much to the staff in Mary I…
The boys and girls enjoyed Buddy Reading last Friday.
We are really enjoying our time using the new school Chromebooks and we are learning so many digital skills. There is not stopping us now!! We have learned how to login to our Chromebooks, the importance of keeping our passwords private, we can find webpages our teacher tells us to find and our typing is getting really good. Our FAVOURITE thing by far though is Blooket, we love a bit of competition between ourselves!
We drew some self-portraits in our sketchpads last week. You could hear a pin drop with the concentration levels. We created some very unique and different pictures about our hobbies and interests.
We had so much fun on Friday doing Buddy Reading with Rang a Sé. We split up, half of us went to sixth class and half of them came to our classroom. We picked a book from our lovely library and 6th class read it with us. There was lots of reading and chatting going on. Go raibh maith agaibh rang a sé.
