We celebrated Scienceweek this week in 2nd class. We had a visit from Claire from the heritage council who showed us some hereos that live in our gardens. It was interesting to hear of some local wildlife in danger of extinction like the dragonfly , bumblebee ( not honey bee) and bats. We identified some mini beasts from outside and examined them with our magnifying glasses. We used all our 5 senses this week and enjoyed some experiments along the way.
Brewing up a storm with our homemade musical instruments.
Plenty of woodlouse and a few worms helping to decompose the autumn leaves.
Adding a few drops of food colouring to our lava lamp. All it needs now is a tablet to cause a reaction releasing carbon dioxide. We used alka seltzer but you could also use effervescent vitamin tablets.
We could see sound by watching the rice move on the cling film. Humming or playing a percussion instrument close to it caused it to move. We found out that high pitched sounds worked well but you might want to block your ears .
